Lansing, MI – A new report released this week reveals that Michigan taxpayer-funded Gotion is, in fact, a pet project of the Chinese Communist Party that receives subsidization from the Chinese government.

According to The Midwesterner, Gotion received subsidies from the Chinese Communist Party-controlled People’s Republic of China while also receiving $175 million Michigan tax dollars for the development of a mega site in Big Rapids. This is a significant development as the People’s Republic of China is a centrally planned economy and political favor with the CCP is integral to success.

On July 20, Gotion amended their 2023 Foreign Agents Registration Act statement, (which was filed only after Republican leaders demanded the company comply with federal law) stating they are “partially subsidized through government funding supplied by the People’s Republic of China.”

“Americans are increasingly concerned by the threat China poses to our country. Lansing Democrats are not just ignoring those concerns, they’re exacerbating them,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “Thanks to Democrats, a corporation linked to the Chinese Communist Party benefits from our tax dollars to set up shop right here in Michigan, just 100 miles away from Camp Grayling. This handout is negligent at best, and at worst a threat to national security.”

Republicans have recognized the national security threat China poses and have responded to Michiganders’ concerns that the project will provide an opportunity for the CCP to spy on the United States. Democrats in Lansing have stonewalled those efforts and downplayed previous reports that Gotion is a Chinese-based company with loyalty to the CCP.

“We’re seeing a clear contrast in Lansing: Republicans want to keep us safe from threats at home and around the world, but Democrats don’t,” Rudat continued. “Democrats are handing out tax dollars to Chinese-funded corporations, they want to hand out driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, and they want to let violent criminals out of prison and back into our streets. It’s an agenda that jeopardizes the safety of families across the state.”
