End Mass Mailing of Unsolicited Absentee Ballot Applications, Clean Voter Rolls.
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Freedom Fund today thanked Chairman Ed McBroom and members of the Senate Oversight Committee for their new, detailed report that concluded there was “no widespread voter fraud during the 2020 elections,” and that critical process improvements can increase the security of and public trust in future elections.
The report stated that “59% of voters no longer trust our elections,” as a result of increased political polarization and discontent over the integrity of elections since at least the year 2000. Making important updates to the state’s elections process will increase the security and trustworthiness of elections moving forward.
“While the Senate Oversight Committee found no evidence of widespread voter fraud, we agree that steps must be taken to enhance the security of future elections,” said Tori Sachs, executive director of the Michigan Freedom Fund. “Concern over the integrity of our elections is a bipartisan issue, not only in 2020 or 2016, but going back to at least the year 2000.
“Since Jocelyn Benson for months refused to clean the voter rolls, it’s time to give clerks the power to remove dead voters from the qualified voter file, and it’s time to stop the Secretary of State from mass mailing unsolicited absentee voter applications. These reforms, paired with important voter ID bills recently approved by the Senate will help enhance public confidence in the security of our elections.”
