Lansing, MI – Today Governor Whitmer rolled out her “Fix the Damn Roads” plan, which is Lansing talk for “raise the damn taxes.”
State spending has increased more than 40% since Governor Whitmer took office. But despite this out-of-control spending, Whitmer thinks Lansing needs to raise taxes to fix the roads, to the tune of billions of dollars.
“We’ve seen this dog and pony show before and it was dead on arrival for a reason. Michigan taxpayers know Lansing has a spending problem, not a funding one,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “For years Michigan families have tightened their own belts and budgets in the face of skyrocketing costs – they’re all wondering why the hell Lansing isn’t doing the same. Michiganders don’t want more taxes or more spending, they want Lansing to pump the brakes and do better with the tax dollars they already have.”
This is the latest chapter in Whitmer’s roads book, which included a failed 45-cent gas tax increase and road bonds that passed the buck onto our kids. The House Republican roads plan invests billions of dollars towards the roads, without asking Michiganders to pay more taxes.
