Lansing, MI – Detroit has had a rough time under Mayor Duggan’s “leadership”.
During single-digit temperatures, hundreds of Detroit families were displaced from their homes after a water main break early Monday morning. This comes just days after two homeless children in Detroit froze to death, despite the family’s repeated attempts for help from the city’s homeless response team.
Sadly this is just the tip of the iceberg for Duggan’s Detroit. A recent study found that Detroit is the worst city in the country for job opportunities, the city with the highest unemployment rate, and the city with the lowest median annual income.
“Mayor Duggan’s Detroit is an absolute model for failure. Michigan voters were abundantly clear last election that they want government to take care of the basics, but under Duggan’s ‘leadership’, the basics in Detroit are being neglected left and right,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “On Duggan’s watch, Detroiters are being neglected, and tens of thousands have fled the city looking for greener pastures elsewhere. Why on Earth would we want to replicate this recipe for failure in Lansing?”
Since Duggan became mayor, Detroit saw an 8.5% decline in population. During that same time span, the rest of the nation grew by 6%, outpacing Detroit by 14.5%.
