Facing Investigation Into Illegal Use of Nonprofit, Whitmer Attempts To Change Cover-up Strategy
LANSING, Mich. – Michigan Freedom Fund Executive Director Tori Sachs provided the following statement today after Governor Gretchen Whitmer was forced to come clean about additional details surrounding her secret flight to Florida this March at a time she warned Michigan residents to avoid out-of-state travel:
“Gov. Whitmer was facing federal investigations from the IRS and FAA for personal illegal use of nonprofit money for a private flight. Whitmer’s new strategy appears instead to illegally use campaign funds for personal travel, a state campaign finance violation.
“Whitmer’s calculation is obvious. She’s counting on a slap on the wrist from her friend, Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, instead of federal investigations and real consequences. Meanwhile, Michigan families are left with more frustration over Whitmer’s genuinely staggering hypocrisy, and less accountability from the Governor.
“Whitmer should immediately disclose all the private flights she has taken since assuming office along with who paid for them.”
