Lansing, MI – Today, House Republicans passed a plan to restore local control for communities across Michigan.
In an effort to usurp the will of taxpayers and accelerate a costly green energy mandate, last term’s Democrat Trifecta stripped wind and solar zoning rights from local units of government, granting that authority to an unelected board in Lansing. Today, House Republicans took an important step to right that wrong with a plan that restores local control and bolsters taxpayers’ voices in zoning decisions.
“Nothing is more fundamental than a taxpayer’s right to have a say in their own government. When it comes to zoning decisions it should be Michigan taxpayers, not unelected bureaucrats in Lansing, who are deciding what happens in their own backyards,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “Thanks to House Republicans, we are one step closer to restoring local control and the voices of millions of Michiganders across the state. Will Senate Democrats learn from the error of their ways and finally listen to the pleas of Michiganders, or double down on their costly green energy mandate?”
Under Michigan’s green energy mandate, Michigan families can expect energy that’s more expensive and less reliable.
