Democrats Refuse to Follow the Same Masking Requirements They Impose on Everyone Else
LANSING, MI – The Michigan Freedom Fund today demanded Governor Whitmer end forced masking in school districts and communities across Michigan. After the governor’s budget director presented her proposal to the legislature without a mask, Whitmer held a press event while wearing a mask at a school that requires students to be masked while in class.
Democrats found themselves in hot water again this week after Stacey Abrams and Michigan Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin shared photos of themselves unmasked while surrounded by masked children and adults. Yesterday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel was maskless for a photo at a pet store in Lansing – a city where children are still forced to wear masks in school.
“It’s time for Governor Whitmer, Michigan Democrats, and local liberal bureaucrats to stop the hypocrisy and end mask mandates imposed on our children,” said Tori Sachs, executive director of the Michigan Freedom Fund. “Democrats like Governor Whitmer, Elissa Slotkin and Dana Nessel have refused to follow the same masking requirements they want to impose on the rest of us and our kids are paying the price. Forced masking has caused great harm to our students academically and emotionally, and it’s time for Governor Whitmer to end this hypocritical and disastrous policy.”
Governor Whitmer declared boilerplate in the state budget unenforceable last year, striking language that would have prohibited local governments from imposing vaccine and mask mandates. Across the country, Democrat governors in New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, Oregon and California have dropped their mask restrictions, citing focus groups and following political science rather than medical science to justify the policy shift.
Governor Whitmer is known for her hypocrisy breaking COVID rules that she imposed on others. Not long ago, Whitmer was caught violating a local masking ordinance at a Washington D.C. bar. This incident came after she broke her own social distancing rules while maskless at a bar in East Lansing.
Teachers’ union president Randi Weingarten stated she will only support lifting mask mandates when there is zero transmission of COVID in schools. The cloth masks used by most students have been proven to be ineffective in reducing the spread of COVID-19.
