LANSING, MI – Today Michigan House Democrats chose an extreme agenda over Michigan families in assigning committee leadership.
Just a few outrageous examples include: a Criminal Justice vice-chair who is anti-police, a Families, Children and Seniors vice-chair who supports socialized healthcare, and an Energy, Communications and Technology Chair who voted to shut down Line 5, which would exponentially increase energy costs for tens of thousands of Michigan families.
“Democrats are out of touch with mainstream Michigan and willing to put an extreme agenda ahead of what is best for our state as demonstrated by the appointments of Joey Andrews, Betsy Coffia, and Helena Scott to these committees,” said Michigan Freedom Fund Executive Director Sarah Anderson.
- Joey Andrews (D) (Majority Vice-Chair) – Committee on Criminal Justice: Called police racist, claimed cops and nazis are “natural allies” and supports defunding the police.
- Betsy Coffia (D) (Majority Vice-Chair) – Committee on Families, Children and Seniors: Supports Medicare for all and abolishing ICE.
- Helena Scott (D) (Chair) – Committee on Energy, Communications and Technology: Voted to shut down Line 5.
