LANSING, MI – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer delivered a tone-deaf speech outlining an agenda that continues to ignore the needs of everyday Michiganders. Michigan families currently face record inflation, skyrocketing gas prices, and their children left behind by a failing education system.
Whitmer’s out-of-touch agenda will mean massive tax increases for families and businesses, including a plan for paid family leave, which is expected to increase taxes by $1.5 billion, according to the Michigan Manufacturers Association.
Additionally, Governor Whitmer expressed concern about allowing Chinese vehicles into Michigan, stating that Michigan, “must reduce our reliance on Chinese products.” Ironically, Democrats signed off on providing $175 million to Gotion Inc., the controversial EV battery manufacturer that is affiliated with China and the Chinese Communist Party.
It’s unclear what the final cost of every agenda item the Governor proposed today will be.
“While Bidenflation continues to crush Michigan families, all Governor Whitmer and Democrats can think about is how to spend more of your hard-earned paycheck,” said Mary Drabik, Communications Director for the Michigan Freedom Fund. “From a recently passed budget filled with pork and pet projects for Democrats to a tone-deaf cry for green energy after hundreds of thousands of Michigan families spent days without power, Michigan deserves better than what we’re getting. Platitudes, proposals, and empty promises are not going to bring jobs, improve school performance, or help Michigan families pay their bills.”
