Dems and their donors capitalize at the expense of taxpayers

Lansing, MI – This is starting to feel like Groundhog Day. This weekend it was reported that yet another House Democrat is cashing in on their new power in Lansing at the expense of Michigan taxpayers.

The Detroit News reported that State Representative Kristian Grant received $15,000 in COVID-19 recovery grants from Kent County in 2020. The reporting uncovered that her applications had multiple discrepancies, drawing into question her qualifications for those funds.

The most concerning part of this story? Local officials allegedly feared retribution from Rep. Grant and Lansing Democrats if they tried holding her accountable.

“Imagine if the average taxpayer had a $15,000 discrepancy on their taxes – would they get to keep the extra money?” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director of the Michigan Freedom Fund. “We’re seeing a concerning pattern emerge from Lansing under the Democrat trifecta. If you kiss the ring and support their radical agenda, you will be taken care of. If you dare question them, you will face retribution.”

This is the latest chapter in a long book of House Democrats using the power of their new majority for corruption. We’ve seen Angela Witwer direct tax dollars to her public relations firm, Jim Haadmsa helping a union lobbyist get away with sexual assault, and Joey Andrews and Phil Skaggs spearheading legislation they could personally profit from.

“Every Democrat in Lansing has fallen in line and taken their marching orders from their top donors at the expense of Michigan families,” Rudat continued. “Big Dem donors like climate activists and unions got what they paid for. Unfortunately, Michigan taxpayers will be footing the bill.”

In addition to policies that increase household energy costs and diminished job growth, the Lansing Democrat trifecta passed the largest state budget in history last year, with 90% of pork projects ending up in their own districts.
