Lansing, MI – Servers and bartenders from across Michigan rallied on the Capitol lawn today, pleading for the legislature to save their tipped wages. Unfortunately, Democrats have opted to ignore those pleas at the request of their donors.

Democrat handlers have officially weighed in, demanding legislators sit on their hands and do nothing for tipped workers. Following the marching orders from their donors, Democrats canceled their plans to attend the rally at the last minute.

“Michigan Democrats are so hell-bent on retaining power, they don’t care whose livelihood or what business they destroy in the process,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for the Michigan Freedom Fund. “Michigan Democrats are willing to throw hundreds of thousands of tipped workers under the bus because their union bosses told them to.”

If the Democrats take the union’s marching orders, one in six Michigan restaurants would close their doors indefinitely, delivering a fatal blow to one of the state’s largest industries. In the blink of an eye, as many as 60,000 restaurant workers could lose their jobs.

“From day one the Democrat Trifecta has put partisanship before people,” Rudat continued. “With hundreds of thousands of Michigan jobs and countless small businesses on the line, it’s time for Democrats to get to work representing Michigan citizens, not their union bosses.”

Republicans continue to call on Democrats to return to Lansing and save tipped wages. But unfortunately, Democrats in the House have not held a single vote on anything all summer.
