Why Full Taxation with Only Half the Representation?

Lansing, MI – Today marks 75 days since 270,000 Michiganders had full representation in Lansing.

It’s officially been 75 days since Kristen McDonald Rivet vacated her State Senate seat to serve in Congress, and Governor Whitmer still has not scheduled a special election for the empty district. Whitmer has officially surpassed her previous record of inaction on scheduling a special election, which was 74 days following the passing of former State Representative Andrea Schroeder.

“It’s appalling we have to reiterate this concept with government still, nearly 250 years after our Declaration of Independence, but taxation without representation generally doesn’t go over very well with the public,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “For too long 270,000 Michiganders have only had half their representation in Lansing. They’ve had no one in the Senate to fight for their region, vote on critical bills, or advocate for investments in their community. Why should any taxpayer pay full taxation for only half the representation?”
