As National Reports Highlight Michigan’s Last-Place Recovery Status, Whitmer Wastes Time Attacking the Freedom Fund
LANSING, Mich. – Michigan Freedom Fund Executive Director Tori Sachs provided the following response today to leaked footage from a private Democratic National Committee meeting this week, where Governor Gretchen Whitmer opted to play partisan politics instead of focusing on kick-starting the state’s worst-in-the-nation recover from COVID-19:
“While Michigan families suffer in a state with COVID recovery efforts that rank worst-in-the-nation, Governor Whitmer left the state for the inauguration, snuck away on a private jet to Florida, violated her own social distancing orders at an East Lansing dive bar and now she’s attending DNC meetings to lob political grenades at the Michigan Freedom Fund because we dare highlight her hypocrisy.
“Let us be clear: We’re not going to stop holding Gretchen Whitmer accountable, and we will continue to expose her reckless double-standards.”
According to a new study from analysts at WalletHub that analyzed health metrics, leisure and travel, local economies and the labor market, Michigan ranks 51st, dead last in the nation for Covid recovery.
The report came the same week as a blistering report from USA Today that claimed Whitmer’s disastrous vaccine rollout lagged other states and exacerbated “a late pandemic spike in cases that killed 2,500 people.” USA Today claimed the state’s failure is being particularly felt by seniors and Black and Latino residents.
