Across the state, thousands of Michigan students were suddenly locked out of classrooms at the last minute. Instead of fighting for our kids, Governor Whitmer remained silent.

Meanwhile, Michigan’s economy is in tatters. Personal incomes are down under Whitmer, inflation is up, and citizens are fleeing our state for greener pastures.

And the Redistricting Commission’s maps are under fire for violating the Voting Rights Act and disenfranchising minority voters.

We have these stories and more on the Frontlines of Freedom.

WHITMER SILENT WHILE BUREAUCRATS LOCK KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL

Across the state of Michigan, an estimated 95,000 children in large, urban school districts were locked out of their classrooms this week by union bosses and school bureaucrats.

President Biden’s Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona says kids should be learning in-person. Dr. Anthony Fauci says kids need to be in schools. Even Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot agrees that schools should be open for in-person instruction.

But Governor Whitmer has refused to fight for the reopening of schools.

MICHIGAN WORST IN MIDWEST UNDER WHITMER

Despite the Whitmer admin’s draconian and unscientific orders, the lockdowns, multiple school closures, and the damage Whitmer has caused to Michigan’s economy, Michigan’s COVID death rate is worse than Florida – a state that embraced freedom and didn’t destroy their economy.

While Florida is growing and its economy is thriving, Michigan is still struggling to recover from Governor Whitmer’s policies. Michigan’s personal income dropped 1.8%, while every neighboring state saw increases, and Michigan ranks number six in outbound moves.

Whitmer’s policies made Michigan’s problems worse, and we’ll be reaping the consequences of her decisions for years to come.

REDISTRICTING COMMISSION ACCUSED OF VOTER DISENFRANCHISEMENT

This week, community organizations across metro Detroit filed a massive new lawsuit against Michigan’s Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission over its efforts to disenfranchise the state’s minority voters.

As The Center Square reports: Michigan groups cry foul over MICRC redistricting maps

“The majority-partisan commission just took gerrymandering to new lows,” Cameron Pickford, communications director for the conservative Michigan Freedom Fund, told The Center Square.

“After secret meetings, secret memos, limiting public comment, ignoring communities of interest and now violating the Voting Rights Act with their approved maps, it’s no wonder commissioners were trying to keep the public in the dark.”
The maps approved last week by the Redistricting Commission blatantly violate the Voting Rights Act to disenfranchise minority voters, and have drawn scathing criticism from voting rights activists.
