Lansing, MI – Today House Republicans unveiled their roads plan that repurposes billions of existing tax dollars into our local roads, without asking drivers or small businesses to pay more.
The revenue-neutral plan ensures that every penny in taxes paid at the pump is invested back into our roads while holding school funding harmless. The plan also ends Lansing’s taxpayer-funded corporate slush fund, redirecting those dollars toward our local roads.
“When it comes to roads, Lansing clearly has a spending problem, not a funding one. State spending has increased 43% since Governor Whitmer took office but we’ve missed out on years of critical investments into our roads because Democrats believe bloated bureaucracy, corporate handouts, and pork barrel projects are more important than investing in the basics,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director of Michigan Freedom Fund. “Michiganders are taxed enough – they’ve tightened their belts and it’s time for Lansing to do the same. House Republicans are doing just that with their roads plan: cutting wasteful spending, repurposing tax dollars, and investing in the basics like fixing our local roads.”
Democrats have also introduced a “roads” plan, which amounts to little else than major tax hikes on Michigan job providers.
