Lansing, MI – Today, House Republicans unveiled their K-12 budget recommendation for the 2025-2026 school year, proposing a plan that will benefit students, parents, and teachers across the state.
Michigan’s broken education system is one of the worst in the nation, with math and reading scores in free fall and COVID learning loss still prevalent across the state. House Republicans are proposing a budget plan to turn things around in Michigan classrooms, providing new resources and flexibility for students to pursue new paths to success.
“Every Michigan parent and teacher knows that the education status quo isn’t working. While Democrats have perpetuated Michigan’s rapid education decline, Republicans are leading the charge on a major course correction with historic investments in Michigan students, proposing per-pupil funding far exceeding the recommendations of Lansing Democrats,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “We’ve seen firsthand that simply increasing funding isn’t enough. That’s why Republicans are pairing this record funding with the flexibility to meet the most pressing needs for our students and pursuing reforms that give students the tools to succeed, teachers the resources to teach, and parents the transparency to choose the best education path for their children.”
