Lansing, MI – While Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is off running for Governor, and running marathons, she’s neglecting to efficiently run Secretary of State Branch offices.

For weeks Benson has faced blistering headlines on her broken campaign finance website, hindering transparency and critical information that taxpayers are entitled to. But according to a new audit, Benson has come up short yet again for Michigan taxpayers.

The Auditor General found that Benson’s Branch Operations Division failed to adequately collect and implement customer service feedback from branch offices across the state, and failed to maintain proper documentation for individuals applying for Real ID cards.

“Over the next 18 months, you can expect Benson to twist the truth about her record as Secretary of State. Despite her rhetoric, the facts remain: Benson has failed to follow regulations, failed to listen to taxpayers, and failed to deliver government transparency or efficiency in Lansing,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “Government efficiency should be more than just a talking point for the campaign trail, it should be the guiding compass for all elected officials, including Benson. Benson should face the music and stop running from the concerns of Michigan taxpayers.”
