Lansing, MI – According to a new study by personal finance website WalletHub, Detroit is practically the least safe city in America.
The WalletHub analysis released this week used 41 different data points to identify the physically and financially safest cities in the country. Out of 182 cities, Detroit ranked an abysmal 181. Among the cities studied, Detroit has the highest assaults per capita, highest unemployment rate, and highest financial risk.
Among the rampant violence was a violent July block party shooting that claimed two lives, left 19 injured, and remains unsolved.
“Detroit can and should be a place Americans around the nation want to move to. Its rich cultural and innovation history should be the envy of the nation, but elected Democrats are getting in the way of Detroit reaching its full potential,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “Elected ‘leaders’ are putting Detroiters’ lives and livelihoods at risk. Detroit has come a long way in recent years, but incremental change is a drop in the bucket compared to what it could be under a bold new direction. And if we don’t change course soon, things could get much worse.”
Lansing Democrats carry a lot of the blame on this front. This term alone they’ve raised taxes, raised the cost of energy, weakened our economy, and defunded school safety resources. Democrats are also working on plans that will let violent criminals out of jail early, and make Michigan a haven for illegal immigrants.
