Lansing, MI – This week WalletHub released new economic data with devastating news for Michigan. According to this data, more people are struggling with financial stress here than in any other state in the nation.

An excerpt from WalletHub’s reporting:

Michigan residents are the most financially distressed people in the country. In Q1 2024, Michigan had the most accounts per person in financial distress, meaning accounts where the account holder was temporarily allowed to not make payments due to financial difficulty. Michiganians also had the second-highest increase in the share of people with distressed accounts between Q1 2023 and Q1 2024, at over 70%.

In addition, the Great Lake State had the fourth-highest overall share of people with accounts in distress, at 7.9%.”

“Michiganders are in desperate need of a break. Instead of delivering one, Michigan Democrats are making our state more expensive and less convenient,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director of Michigan Freedom Fund. “Michigan Democrats are raising our taxes, raising our electric bills, and driving jobs out of our state, all while handing out billions of tax dollars to wealthy corporations who don’t deliver on their promises.”

In contrast, Michigan Republicans have an economic growth plan that would help pull Michiganders out of the depths of financial stress: the “Grow MI State” plan.

“Lansing needs to stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution,” Rudat continued. “The state can deliver solutions for struggling Michigan families if it reverses course and stops pursuing the Democrats’ failed agenda.”
