Lansing, MI – Do you remember the Governor Whitmer donor who received a $20 million taxpayer-funded handout to buy a $4,500 coffee maker? Turns out she’s still lighting our tax dollars on fire.
Handout recipient and Democrat donor Fay Beydoun promised she would “wind down” her taxpayer-funded business venture after her reckless spending was uncovered in April of this year. But new reporting uncovers Beydoun broke her promise, and spent $735,000 in tax dollars in the past 6 months.
“This is quite a compelling case study on why handing out taxpayer-funded blank checks with no strings attached is a bad idea,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “Whether it’s taking care of their donors like Beydoun, taking care of big corporations, or taking care of their own political rear ends, Democrats use their power to pick winners and losers and force taxpayers to cover the tab with zero return on investment. With reckless spending like this, it’s no wonder Michigan voters resoundingly said ‘enough,’ and brought an end to unilateral Democrat control in Lansing.”
Under two years of Democrat trifecta in Lansing, Democrats enacted the largest budgets in state history in back-to-back years, abandoning efforts to claw back Beydoun’s handout. And on Whitmer’s watch, Michigan’s state budget has increased a staggering 43%.
