Lansing, MI – President Joe Biden’s visit to Metro Detroit reminded Michiganders in the auto industry how Democrats’ EV policies are destroying jobs and wasting taxpayer dollars.

During his visit, Biden remarked that “when labor does well, everybody does better.” However, reports over the past few months have detailed a decline in labor — Ford, GM, and Stellantis are all making the switch to EVs, and cut nearly 14,000 jobs weeks after finalizing contract agreements. Plus, millions in taxpayer-funded subsidies have been awarded for controversial projects, such as the Ford Marshall plant, and the Gotion EV battery factory near Big Rapids. Job cuts have left workers feeling betrayed and confused by automakers and the UAW.

UAW President Shawn Fain explained in a live interview that a majority of UAW members are unlikely to support the President

“Liberal political elites like Joe Biden can keep telling themselves the lie that EVs are good for Michigan workers, but won’t change the fact that thousands of jobs have already been lost and millions of taxpayer dollars have been wasted on this government-engineered gambit,” said Mary Drabik, Communications Director for the Michigan Freedom Fund. “Biden and Democrats are out of touch with reality — Michiganders are losing their jobs as the result of pandering to wealthy ivory tower elites.”

Michigan is a bottom ten state for EV adoption according to JD Power. Governor Whitmer is artificially lowering the price of EVs through a ‘rebate’ plan that will hardly cover the cost of interest on the loan. Plus, Michigan Democrats and Whitmer knew EVs were a job killer — last year Democrats expanded the size of state government in the form of a “Community and Worker Economic Transition Office” to assist those affected by auto job cuts as a result of the shift to EVs.
