Lansing, MI – Michigan Democrats have already handed out billions of tax dollars to big corporations this term. According to new reporting, billions more could soon be out the door.
Hidden behind closed doors and NDAs, the Whitmer Administration has been quietly greasing the wheels for California-based chipmaker Western Digital Technologies Inc. to set up shop on 1,300 acres of farmland in Genesee County. The state has already spent a quarter billion tax dollars prepping the site, but billions more could soon be out the door.
“We have seen this song and dance before. Democrats keep the public in the dark, they hand out billions of our tax dollars to big corporations promising ‘good paying jobs,’ but the jobs rarely materialize,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “When Democrats use our tax dollars to pick winners and losers, their corporate friends will always be the winners, making everyone else the losers.”
This could be the latest chapter in Lansing’s lengthy corporate welfare book. In this term alone Democrats have signed off on $4.5 billion worth of corporate welfare, including $1.3 billion on a Ford site in Marshall, and $175 million on the Gotion site in Big Rapids. And like both of those developments, locals in Genesee County do not want this megasite in their backyard.
“Prices are up 21% for everyone since Joe Biden became President,” Rudat continued. “Instead of handing out our tax dollars to big corporations like it’s candy on Halloween, Democrats need to cut taxes and lower the cost of living for Michigan families.”
Republicans in Lansing have a plan to end the corporate slush fund in Lansing and cut taxes for everyone in Michigan.
