Lansing, MI – Michigan’s Senate just gave us a case study on putting politics ahead of progress.
Today, Senate Democrats, joined by Republican Senator John Damoose, passed a plan that creates a “Prescription Drug Affordability Board,” which would cost taxpayers millions of dollars on an annual basis. Only a handful of progressive states have enacted similar boards, costing taxpayers millions while failing to actually lower costs for prescription drugs.
“Simply calling something affordable doesn’t make it so. There’s a reason that only a handful of liberal states across the nation have implemented these boards, and it’s the same reason Democrats couldn’t even get this done under last term’s trifecta: these boards cost taxpayers millions without actually lowering costs,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director of Michigan Freedom Fund. “Sadly, Senate Democrats and Senator Damoose voted for empty talking points instead of pursuing tangible solutions. If we genuinely want to lower drug costs for Michiganders without wasting tax dollars, let’s get the government out of the way, unleash free-market research, and expand patient treatment options.”
Notably, Senator Damoose voted against a similar package last term, which included Senate Bill 483-485.
