Lansing, MI – Last week Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan sent shock waves through Michigan political circles, ditching the Democrat Party and launching an Independent bid for Governor.
Duggan will have a hard time convincing Michiganders he’s genuinely independent after endorsing Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Gretchen Whitmer (twice). But if he’s really had a change of heart, he can step up and kill the partisan progressive agenda working its way through Lansing during the Lame Duck session of 2024.
“There’s a laundry list of crazy progressive ideas in Lansing right now. Bills that would give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, early release for violent criminals, handouts to Hollywood and big corporations, and fee increases on Michigan drivers. If Mayor Duggan is really an Independent he can step up, put his money where his mouth is, and kill these bills,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “There’s no better time than the present for Duggan to join Republicans, who are fighting tirelessly in Lansing for Michigan taxpayers. Will Duggan hold his former party accountable? Or will the public quickly call his bluff and see his true progressive partisan colors shine through?”
While Democrats have doubled down on their partisan progressive agenda, Republicans are working hard to save tipped wages and fix our local roads without raising fees on Michigan drivers.
