Lansing, MI – Today, House Republicans fought to secure our communities, our tax dollars, and our votes.
Michigan Freedom Fund provides the following statement on the House Republican plan to ban sanctuary cities, and block illegal immigrants from receiving government aid:
“If government isn’t working for the taxpayers first and foremost, it’s not working period. Local units of government who adopt sanctuary city policies do so at the expense of the citizens they’re supposed to serve, jeopardizing their physical and financial safety,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “Voters in Michigan were clear in 2024 — they want all levels of government to do their part to rein in illegal immigration. House Republicans are listening to the concerns of the voters, putting solutions into action that protect our communities and our tax dollars.”
Michigan Freedom Fund also provides the following statement on House Democrats stonewalling a constitutional amendment to require proof of citizenship when registering to vote, and a photo ID to vote:
“It’s nearly impossible to get over 80% of Americans to agree on anything these days, but on the rare occasion they do, House Democrats will still block progress on common-sense solutions when it’s counter to their extreme partisan agenda,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “We’ve seen firsthand the consequences of not having these sensible safeguards on the books. When we leave loopholes in our election laws, we enable bad actors to undermine the will of the people. It’s far past time to follow the lead of our neighboring swing state, and get these common-sense solutions on the books once and for all.”
