Teacher Martha Ptashnik
“Freedom Fighter of the Month”
LANSING, MI, May 19, 2020 – The Michigan Freedom Fund has awarded Martha Ptashnik, a teacher in Livonia Public Schools its April “Freedom Fighter of the Month” award in recognition of her work to continue educating students in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Mrs. Ptashnik has been a strong advocate for her students and her community,” said Michigan Freedom Fund Executive Director Tony Daunt. “Early on, when Gov. Whitmer shut down schools across the state, Martha stepped up, using every tool at her disposal to ensure the students in her classroom continued to learn. We applaud her efforts to meet the educational and emotional needs of Livonia students.”
“Keeping students engaged in a remote learning situation has been a new challenge for me and my colleagues,” offered Ptashnik. “I don’t think teaching will ever look the same as it did before COVID-19, but I have been impressed by how my students have progressed through some difficult math content, and how my seniors have continued to prepare for their AP exams.”
Martha Ptashnik is the mathematics department chairman at Livonia Churchill High School.
The “Freedom Fighter of the Month” is an award created by the Freedom Fund to recognize those individuals who are diligently working to defend taxpayers and protect our Constitutional freedoms.
