“National Popular Vote” Disaster Would Let Residents in Los Angeles, New York City Override the Votes of Michiganders

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan Freedom Fund executive director Tori Sachs released the following statement following reports that a ballot initiative has been launched to decide the presidency by popular vote:

“The ‘National Popular Vote’ would immediately disenfranchise every single Michigan voter and silence working-class Americans across the nation. This disastrous proposal would make issues voters care about irrelevant while centering political power and decision-making in the nation’s biggest cities where liberal elites have assembled en masse.

“Were this proposal to go into law, Michiganders would be forced to hand their electoral votes over to the candidate of choice of cities like LA and NYC whose 3.8 million and 8.8 million populations combined outnumber the 10 million people living in the entire state of Michigan.

“Liberals are obsessed with forcing Americans to conform to their radical agenda, and this is just another attempt to do just that by using large states like California and New York to impose their will on the rest of the country – in this case, a Democrat President.”
