Nearly 100,000 Michigan Kids Still Forced To Mask At School

Freedom Fund Repeats Calls To End Forced Masking Of Students After Airline Mask Mandate Overturned

LANSING, MI – A Federal judge overturned the Biden administration’s mask mandate for planes, ruling that the CDC had overstepped its authority. Meanwhile, too many students across Michigan are still subjected to forced masking in the classroom.

“It’s absolutely ridiculous that nearly 100,000 Michigan students are still forced to wear a mask at school when the mask mandates have been dropped everywhere else,” said Tori Sachs, executive director of the Michigan Freedom Fund. “Michigan students are suffering academically and emotionally, and Governor Whitmer still refuses to stand up for our kids. It’s time to put parents back in charge by ending the harmful forced masking of students.”

Students in Ann Arbor staged a walkout to protest forced masking requirements earlier this month. Ann Arbor Public Schools also threatened unmasked parents with criminal trespassing charges this week. Nearly 100,000 students in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Kalamazoo, Lansing and Ypsilanti are still subject to mask mandates in their schools.

Earlier this year, Whitmer’s Michigan Democrat Party was widely condemned for a Facebook post that claimed parents shouldn’t have a say in their kids’ education. Governor Whitmer vetoed scholarships for struggling readers and opportunity accounts that would have provided money to families for tutoring, Wi-Fi and laptops, textbooks, mental health services and tuition at a school of their choosing.
