It’s Time for Whitmer to End the Forced Masking of Michigan Kids

LANSING, MI – Last night’s Super Bowl matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams had a stadium full of celebrities and politicians. Despite the large indoor crowd, mask requirements at the venue, a statewide and county mask mandate, celebrities and politicians were seen maskless during the game.

In Los Angeles – and many counties and school districts across Michigan – kids are still required to wear a mask at school.

USA Today reports: Where were the masks? Celebrities and fans enjoy Super Bowl maskless despite mandateDuring Sunday’s game at SoFi stadium in Inglewood, California, Lebron James, Chris Tucker, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron, Matt Damon and more were caught on camera without face coverings, to the dismay of some users on social media.  Everyone at SoFi Stadium ages 2 or older were required to wear a mask unless they were actively drinking or eating. In California, there is a statewide mandate for people to wear masks indoors until Tuesday. “My students all have to wear masks all day tomorrow, inside and outside of their classrooms because we are in LA County. Same place as the Super Bowl. But not a mask in sight here,” one user tweeted.“Michigan kids who watched the Super Bowl last night learned three things: Their parents think they can dance, Matthew Stafford was not the problem with the Lions, and the ‘masks for thee, not for me’ hypocrisy is as strong in Los Angeles as it is in Lansing,” said Tori Sachs, executive director of The Michigan Freedom Fund. “In just the last week, Michigan Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin and Attorney General Dana Nessel chose not to wear a mask while others around them were masked. It’s clear liberal politicians and celebrities don’t think masks are necessary for themselves while still forcing kids to wear masks at school.“Michigan kids have suffered enough, and it’s time to let parents and students – not liberal bureaucrats – decide when they should wear a mask. Governor Whitmer must stand up for Michigan kids, and end forced masking in our schools.” Last week, the Michigan Freedom Fund launched a digital ad calling on Governor Whitmer to end the hypocritical forced masking of students.

WATCH: End Forced MaskingWhen the Michigan legislature attempted to block local bureaucrats from imposing vaccine and mask mandates last year, Whitmer stopped them by declaring the boilerplate language in the state budget unenforceable. Governor Whitmer has repeatedly broken COVID rules that she imposed on others. Last year, Whitmer was caught violating a local masking ordinance at a Washington D.C. bar, and violated her own social distancing rules while maskless at a bar in East Lansing. The Michigan Freedom Fund works to advance conservative ideas, hold our government accountable to taxpayers, and protect Freedom, opportunity, and workers’ Constitutional rights.
