Court Unanimously Declares Michigan Education Association Cannot Restrict Teachers’ Rights to One Month of the Year
Michigan Freedom Fund President Terri Reid issued the following statement today after the Court of Appeals ruled unanimously that the Michigan Education Association cannot restrict teachers from opting out of the union to a single month of the year:
“Today is a great day for Michigan teachers. The Michigan Education Association has been shameless in their attempts to strip teachers of their rights and freedoms, and to drain their bank accounts to fatten Steve Cook’s. Rulings from an Administrative Law Judge, the Michigan Employment Relations Commission, and now the Court of Appeals have lambasted the MEA and defended the rights of Michigan teachers. We’re proud of our teachers, and proud to stand up for their constitutional rights.”
