Whitmer Announced Support for Federal Gas Tax Holiday, Stating “We need to do all we can to put money back in people’s pockets.”

LANSING, MI – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer tweeted support of a federal gas tax holiday, citing the need to “do all we can to put money back in people’s pockets.” Last week, Whitmer promised to veto a bipartisan income tax cut that would provide Michigan taxpayers with immediate relief from her Beverly Hills fundraiser. The legislation was presented to the governor yesterday and is now awaiting her official veto or signature.

“Governor Whitmer has a bipartisan income tax cut on her desk that she could sign today which would give immediate relief to over four million Michigan taxpayers who are struggling as a result of failed Biden-Whitmer policies,” said Tori Sachs, executive director of the Michigan Freedom Fund. “In her attempt to score free headlines by calling on Pelosi’s Congress to pause the federal gas tax until after her re-election campaign, Whitmer said nothing about the fact she previously wanted a 45 cent gas tax increase and is actively trying to shut down the Line 5 pipeline.

“The people of Michigan know when they’re getting played by politicians and Whitmer is hoping to distract taxpayers with a hollow call for Congress to do something while Whitmer herself could sign a tax cut bill that’s on her desk right now.”
