“They never told us the water was unsafe,” said (Carmela) Patton, (a Benton Harbor city resident) who said her skin was starting to itch because of the water. “You know how Flint blew up? We didn’t get blown up (with the attention) like that. It’s heartbreaking, it’s sad. It makes you feel unappreciated as a person, like nobody cares.”

WHITMER ADMIN KNEW THERE WAS LEAD IN THE WATER IN BENTON HARBOR FOR YEARS |
The biggest story this week is in Benton Harbor, Michigan, where it was revealed that not only did the Whitmer administration know for years that there was lead in the water, but they failed to warn residents about it until late September.
“That was the No. 1 thing that they could have come out and said, ‘Do not drink the water.’ But they failed to do so,” (Rev. Edward) Pinkney, (president of the Benton Harbor Community Water Council) said. “They are in denial. You never hear them talk about how bad the water is … in three years. That’s criminal.”

CONSERVATIVES WIN IN COURT AGAINST JOCELYN BENSON |
The Michigan Court of Claims ruled against Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, saying she improperly withheld documents related to her slap-on-the-wrist fine in the Gretchen Whitmer and Build a Better Michigan campaign finance scandal of 2018.
“The ruling could shed additional light on the behind-the-scenes discussions that led to Build a Better Michigan agreeing in 2019 to a $37,500 settlement for its violations, a total that many Republicans argued was far too small because the group had spent more than $2 million on TV ads promoting Whitmer, at the time, a Democratic candidate for governor.”

MICHIGAN DEMS PAY $19,000 FINE FOR ILLEGAL DONATIONS |
The Michigan Democrat Party got dinged with a hefty $19,000 fine for failing to comply with FEC regulations.
“The Michigan Democratic Party was just fined $19,000 for failing to comply with the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1977. The fine came from them taking excessive contributions in the amount of $42,479.38.”

LEGISLATURE SENDS VOTER ID ELECTIONS BILLS TO WHITMER’S DESK |
Finally, the Michigan State House passed elections bills that will make it easier to vote, and harder to cheat. The bills add a photo identification requirement for obtaining a ballot – an idea supported by a bipartisan majority of the American people – and provide a free photo ID to every Michigan citizen who wants one.
We encourage Governor Whitmer to set her partisanship aside and sign this common sense legislation. It’s the right thing to do for the people of Michigan, and will further enhance the security of our elections.
