Lansing, MI – Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson already has a laundry list of failures from her time in Lansing. But according to a new finding, her inaction may make a costly addition.
Last fall Michigan Rising Action filed a complaint with the Bureau of Elections alleging that Climate Cabinet PAC illegally raised and contributed nearly $200,000 to Michigan Democrats. The BOE has confirmed the liberal PAC violated campaign finance laws, leaving all of us to wonder if Benson will deliver swift justice or just a friendly warning for her fellow progressives.
“We’re about to see in real-time whether or not Benson genuinely believes in fairness and the rule of law. If she genuinely believes the values she talks about, she’ll seek swift accountability for these illegal Democrat transactions,” said Zach Rudat, Advocacy Director for Michigan Freedom Fund. “Liberal political operatives illegally dumped hundreds of thousands of dollars into Michigan supporting Benson’s party and her allies. Will Benson hold these progressive operatives accountable, or let them slide?”
Recipients of illegal donations from Climate Cabinet PAC include multiple Democrats who’ve endorsed Benson for Governor, including Representatives Betsy Coffia, Dylan Wegela, Jennifer Conlin, Denise Mentzer, Mayor David LaGrand, and Grand Rapids City Commissioner Marshall Kilgore. Other Democrats who received illegal contributions, but have not endorsed Benson include Representatives Reggie Miller, Mai Xiong, and Matt Koleszar.
